Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, share, and protect your information — and the choices and rights you have.
This Privacy Policy explains how Skills Trade App LLC ("SKILLS," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use SKILLS Trade — our business-to-business (B2B) trade-to-trade labor marketplace — across our iOS app, Android app, web app at go.skillstrade.app, and this marketing site at skillstrade.app (together, the "Service").
SKILLS is built for trade businesses. Participation is anchored to organizations (real businesses), not individual consumers. This policy is written in plain English for the contractors who use SKILLS, but it is meant to be legally complete.
Who we are
SKILLS Trade is operated by Skills Trade App LLC, a limited liability company organized in the United States, which is the controller of the personal information described here. If you have any questions about this policy or your information, contact us at hello@skillstrade.app.
Scope and US-only service
We operate in all 50 U.S. states, and our v1 launch is United States only. This policy is written around US privacy law — principally the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (together, the "CCPA/CPRA"), together with the comprehensive privacy laws of other US states. If we expand the Service outside the United States in the future, we will update this policy to address the additional requirements that apply.
Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information, most of which you provide directly when you create an organization, build your profile, post work, send offers, message other businesses, or upload documents.
Account and identity information
- Your name and email address.
- Your phone number, only if you choose phone sign-in.
- Sign-in is available through Google OAuth, email and password, and phone one-time passcode (SMS). Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored in hashed form; we do not see or store your plain-text password.
Business profile information
Your company / organization name, business address, trades, crew information, website and social links, and your organization logo.
Location information
With your permission, we collect your device's precise and approximate location, collected only while the app is in use (in the foreground), to show you nearby job postings on a map. We do not track your location in the background. We also collect any job-site addresses or service areas you type into a posting. Maps and geocoding are provided by Mapbox.
Content you create
The content you create on the marketplace, including postings ("Crew Needed" / "Crew Available"), Coverage Offers, Work Agreement records, reviews and ratings, in-app messages and attachments, and photos you capture or upload.
Compliance Vault documents
The Compliance Vault lets you upload, track, and (at your choice) share compliance documents, including insurance certificates (COIs), professional licenses, certifications, W-9 / tax and business documents, and safety-training records.
Some of these documents may contain sensitive government identifiers — for example, a W-9 may contain a Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN), and a license contains a license number. We collect and store these as user-uploaded files that you choose to add. We store them so you can manage and present your compliance status.
The Vault includes a user-initiated share feature that lets you share your compliance and verification status with other SKILLS users. Sharing only happens when you choose to start it, and you can stop sharing at any time. When you delete a Vault document or your account, the associated files are deleted as described in Your rights and choices and on our Account & Data Deletion page.
Voice input
If you use hands-free posting or search, we use microphone audio for speech-to-text. Speech recognition is performed by your device's platform service; on iOS, audio may be processed by Apple's speech-recognition servers. We use the transcribed text, not retained raw audio recordings.
Identifiers and device information
An account user ID, and — if you enable notifications — a push-notification token and your device platform.
Payment information
Card details are collected and processed by Stripe on the web. We store your subscription status / entitlement and a Stripe customer ID — we do not store full card numbers.
What we do not collect in the apps
We do not use third-party product-analytics or crash-reporting software development kits (SDKs) in our mobile apps — for example, there is no Google Analytics / Firebase Analytics, Sentry, or Mixpanel in the apps. (This marketing website uses limited, cookieless analytics and a CRM tracking script; see our Cookie Policy for details and choices.)
How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Provide and operate the marketplace — postings, offers, Work Agreements, messaging, and the Compliance Vault.
- Show you nearby postings on a map.
- Deliver email, SMS one-time passcodes, and push notifications.
- Power AI features such as Ask Skills, smart search, and title suggestions.
- Process subscriptions and manage entitlements.
- Provide customer support.
- Keep the Service secure and free of abuse, including reporting tools and audit trails.
How we share information
We are not in the business of selling your data. We share information only as described here.
With other businesses on the marketplace
Your postings, offers, organization profile, verification status, and any compliance status you choose to share are visible to other businesses on the platform. That visibility is the point of a marketplace — it is how other trade businesses find and evaluate you.
With our CRM for onboarding and marketing
When an organization is created, we send that organization's name, email, phone, company, address, and trades to GoHighLevel, our customer relationship management (CRM) provider, for onboarding and marketing communications.
With our AI providers
Text you enter into Ask Skills or smart search — and, for Ask Skills, your organization's own Compliance Vault context (such as your document categories and verification status, not the underlying document files) — is sent to our AI providers, Perplexity and Anthropic, to generate responses. We send only the context needed to answer your question. That processing is governed by those providers' terms.
With service providers (subprocessors)
We share information with vetted service providers that process it on our behalf to run the Service — for example, hosting, authentication, payments, maps, messaging, and email. See our Subprocessors page for the current list and what each one does. Information is encrypted in transit to these providers using HTTPS/TLS.
For legal, safety, and business-transfer reasons
We may share information when we believe it is necessary to comply with the law or legal process, to enforce our Terms of Service, to protect the rights, safety, and property of SKILLS, our users, or the public, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets (in which case we will require the recipient to honor this policy or notify you of any material change).
We do not sell or "share" for cross-context advertising
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising or third-party ad tracking. There are no third-party advertising SDKs in our apps. See Your Privacy Choices for more on the CCPA/CPRA meanings of "sell" and "share."
Notice at Collection
This is a summary of what we collect, why, and whether we sell or share it, provided at or before the point of collection under the CCPA/CPRA.
- Categories collected: identifiers (name, email, phone, account/user ID); commercial information (subscription status, transactions); internet/network activity (limited, cookieless analytics on our marketing site only — not in the apps); geolocation (only while the app is in use); audio for voice-to-text input (we keep the transcribed text, not raw audio); professional/employment and business information (company, trades, crew, licenses); government identifiers contained in documents you upload (e.g., an SSN or EIN on a W-9, and license numbers); and user content (postings, offers, messages, photos, reviews).
- Sensitive personal information: Some of what we collect is treated as "sensitive" under the CCPA/CPRA — precise geolocation (only while the app is in use) and the government identifiers contained in documents you upload (e.g., an SSN or EIN on a W-9, and license numbers). We use and disclose it only to provide the Service you requested and for purposes the law permits — never to infer characteristics about you and never for cross-context behavioral advertising. See Sensitive personal information.
- Purposes: to provide and operate the marketplace, communicate with you, power AI features, process subscriptions, provide support, market the Service, and keep it secure. See How we use information.
- Sold or shared (as defined by the CCPA/CPRA): No. We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Retention: We keep each category only as long as needed for the purposes above and as described in How long we keep information.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, and afterward only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy — for example, to meet legal, tax, accounting, dispute-resolution, fraud-prevention, and marketplace transaction and audit-history obligations. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it. The exact period we keep a given record depends on the purpose it serves and on any legal, tax, or accounting requirement that applies to it; we do not keep personal information longer than is reasonably necessary for those purposes.
Data security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit using HTTPS/TLS and access controls on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and to limit access to it.
Your rights and choices
You have meaningful control over your information.
- Access and correction. You can view and edit your account and business-profile information directly in the app.
- Deletion. You can delete your account and associated personal data in the app at Profile / Settings → Delete Account, which removes your account and cascaded data, including Compliance Vault documents. If you cannot access the app, you can request deletion by emailing hello@skillstrade.app. See the Account & Data Deletion page for step-by-step instructions, what is deleted, what may be retained and why, and timing.
- Device permissions. Camera, photo library, location, and microphone access are optional and revocable in your device settings. Core features work without them.
- Notifications. You can turn off push notifications in your device settings at any time.
- Marketing. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in those emails, or by contacting us.
Your US privacy rights
Depending on the state you live in, you may have the right to:
- Know / access the personal information we have collected about you and how we use and disclose it.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Delete personal information we have collected from you.
- Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information and of certain profiling — although, as noted above, we do not sell or share your personal information.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
To exercise these rights, email us at hello@skillstrade.app and tell us which right you'd like to exercise. We will verify your request (typically by confirming control of the account email) before acting on it, and you may use an authorized agent where the law allows. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law. For the CCPA/CPRA-specific notices, see Your Privacy Choices.
Opt-out preference signals (GPC). We honor browser-based opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control (GPC): when your browser sends a GPC signal on our marketing website, we treat it as an opt-out and do not load non-essential analytics or CRM trackers. Because we do not sell or share your personal information, there is no sale or share to opt out of — but we still respect GPC for cookies and analytics. See our Cookie Policy.
Sensitive personal information
Some documents you choose to upload to the Compliance Vault may contain sensitive personal information — for example, a Social Security Number (SSN) or EIN on a W-9, or a professional license number — and we collect precise geolocation while the app is in use. We use and disclose this information only to provide the Service you requested (such as the Compliance Vault and nearby-postings features) and as otherwise permitted by the CCPA/CPRA — never to infer characteristics about you and never for cross-context behavioral advertising. California residents have the right to limit our use of sensitive personal information to those purposes; because we already limit our use this way, there is nothing further to restrict, but you may contact us at hello@skillstrade.app to confirm.
Your rights in other US states
If you are a resident of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, or another state with a comprehensive consumer privacy law now in effect, you have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy of your personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal information, and certain profiling. We honor these rights regardless of where in the United States you live. Where a state law provides an appeal process for a denied request, you may appeal by replying to our decision or contacting hello@skillstrade.app.
Children's privacy
The Service is a B2B tool intended only for businesses and the people authorized to act for them. It is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a minor has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Third-party links and services
The Service may link to or rely on third-party sites and services (for example, Google sign-in, Stripe checkout, or a counterparty's website). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice (for example, in the app or by email). Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
